Elliott Review into the Integrity and Assurance of Food Supply Networks – Final Report
Providing safe feed and food is essential to ensure that the risk of a food or feed ‘incident’ is minimised. A complex web of supply chains combine to achieve this and the Agricultural Industries Confederation’s (AIC) feed trade assurance schemes form a vital part of the ’assured chain’ which minimises risk.
FIAS covers the assurance of all fertilisers intended for agriculture, horticulture, forestry, amenity and any other such commercial use. It does not apply to fertilisers packaged for home garden use. The issues and the risks vary according to the type of fertiliser and it is for this reason that the entire scheme has adopted a “Risk Assessment” approach to achieving the necessary level of assurance.
The FIAS Merchants Standard is only intended for businesses involved in the trading, storage and transport of fertilisers. Any business involved in blending, packing, repacking or otherwise processing fertiliser including the design and procurement of packaging and labelling for use by a contractor must seek certification to the FIAS Manufacturing & Packing Standard.
